I designed a Coffee Table for hotels and public spaces with Japanese craftsmanship in mind.
TATAMI table derives its name from traditional Japanese flooring – straw mats called ‘tatami’. The shape of the table and its colour scheme refers to a classic Japanese tea room, which is 4 1/2 tatami size.
The reduced demand for traditional products leads to a decrease in the number of craftsmen who are able to make things in an original way. The concept is to meet the needs of modern spaces with the use of traditional crafts and provide jobs for their masters: tatami masters and wooden joinery specialists.
